The Defence Minister emphasized that the future of maritime security depends largely on technological innovation, intelligence-driven operations, and stronger partnerships with regional and international allies.

According to him, the Nigerian Navy must continue to embrace advanced surveillance systems, cyber defence capabilities, unmanned technologies, and data-driven operations to effectively tackle emerging maritime threats.

“The future of the Nigerian Navy lies in its ability to harness cutting-edge technology and strengthen collaboration with regional and international partners,” General Musa said.

The Minister commended the Chief of the Naval Staff, officers, ratings, and civilian personnel for their professionalism, discipline, and resilience over the past 70 years, describing the Navy as a model institution that has consistently demonstrated excellence in service and national commitment.

He also expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support towards strengthening maritime security and stability in the region.

Musa noted that the Navy’s operations have played a critical role in protecting Nigeria’s economic interests by securing sea routes, offshore oil and gas installations, and other vital maritime assets.

He said the Service remains at the forefront of efforts to combat piracy, crude oil theft, illegal fishing, and other forms of maritime crime that threaten national development.

“Through active participation in internal security operations and support to sister services and security agencies, the Navy has played a vital role in maintaining peace and stability, thereby creating the secure environment necessary for economic growth and national development,” he stated.

The Minister also congratulated officers and ratings who received awards during the ceremony, including personnel honoured posthumously for their sacrifice and service to the nation.

Highlighting the significance of the Ceremonial Sunset, General Musa described it as one of the Navy’s most enduring traditions, symbolising duty, honour, vigilance, and the seamless transfer of responsibility from one watch to another.

He noted that while individual duties may come to an end, the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding the nation remains constant.
