The Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) has expressed its delight over the health insurance registration programme launched by the Kano State Censorship Board in collaboration with the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) for Kannywood practitioners.
In a statement signed by the National President of MOPPAN, Alhaji Shehu Hassan Kano, on June 5, 2026, the association said the decision followed a crucial meeting held the previous day between the Kano State Censorship Board and KSCHMA.
According to MOPPAN, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Abba El-Mustapha, led a delegation from the film industry to the KSCHMA headquarters, where they met with the agency’s Executive Secretary, Hajiya Rahila, to discuss ways of supporting Kannywood practitioners, particularly those facing health challenges.
The association disclosed that among the first steps taken was the commencement of medical support for some prominent actors and actresses battling health issues, including Aminu Mahiru, Haruna Titibiri, Ladidi Fagge, Abubakar Hunter, Mustapha Musty, Zainab Golden, and Zakiyya Ibrahim.
MOPPAN further stated that the distribution of health insurance registration forms has already begun, while some of the necessary procedures for the implementation of the scheme have been completed.
It explained that every Kannywood practitioner who completes the registration process will be entitled to access healthcare services at accredited hospitals under the scheme.
The association also revealed that the official launch of the programme, titled, “Kannywood Abba Health Care,” will take place in the near future. The event is expected to attract top government officials and representatives of Kannywood associations, including MOPPAN, Arewa Elders, Actors, and KAFIGAN.
Shehu Kano commended El-Mustapha for his efforts in advancing the Kannywood industry, describing the initiative as a major intervention that would significantly improve the welfare and well-being of film practitioners.
He also urged all Kannywood practitioners to embrace the opportunity by registering for the health insurance scheme in order to secure access to healthcare and medical protection whenever the need arises.
