
Police detain Kano TikTok star over boyfriend’s death
Residents of the Danbare area in Kano woke up on Friday in shock and mourning following the discovery of the body of a young man, identified as Isma’il Makaya, at the residence of popular TikTok personality Fati Cele.
Reports indicate that the incident came to light after cries for help were heard from inside the house, with Fati allegedly shouting that a fire had broken out in her home. Neighbors quickly rushed to the scene to offer assistance. However, upon entering the house, they found Isma’il’s lifeless body. He was said to be Fati’s boyfriend and was reportedly found with injuries as well as burn marks on parts of his body.
The deceased was a businessman who sold cosmetics in the Hotoro area of Kano.
Following the incident, police officers from the Dorayi Babba Police Division took Fati into custody to facilitate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death. Security agencies are continuing to gather information to determine exactly what transpired.
On Saturday, the funeral prayer for the late Isma’il Makaya was held at his family home in Unguwa Uku ‘Yan Awaki, located in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. Relatives, friends, and well-wishers attended the burial in an atmosphere of grief.
Sources close to Fati Cele said that she and the deceased had previously experienced disagreements that led to a breakup, but they later reconciled and resumed their relationship.
Fati Cele, who is originally from Borno State, resides as a tenant in the Danbare area of Kano. She is well known on TikTok, where she has more than 32,500 followers. She is also recognized for appearing in promotional skits for a Gala outlet in Sabon Gari, Kano.
Since the incident occurred, TikTok has been flooded with condolence messages from friends and admirers of the deceased. Meanwhile, many people are calling on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the true cause of his death.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had not released any official findings from its ongoing investigation.
