Popular Nigerian actress, Amal Umar, has called on Nigerians and their leaders to focus on addressing the country’s security challenges and worsening living conditions rather than being distracted by issues that have no direct impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.
The Kano-based star, who has appeared in countless Kannywood and Nollywood movies, made the call in her Friday message posted on her social media page, where she began by praying for God’s blessings upon Nigerians on the holy day of Friday.
“O Allah, grant us a solution to the situation Nigeria is facing. Let us continue to pray, because Allah never sleeps and He is the One who brings relief,” she said.
Amal urged the country’s leaders to remember the promises they made to the people and to carry out their responsibilities with the fear of God.
“Fear Allah and remember that He is watching everything you do. Every day, children are kidnapped, people are killed and tortured, yet the country’s problems continue to grow. We should be discussing issues that are truly important to the lives of our people, not occupying ourselves with matters that will not bring solutions to our problems,” she said.
She also extended her condolences to families who have lost loved ones as a result of the security challenges facing the country, praying that Allah forgives the deceased and grants their families the strength to bear the loss.
The actress also used the opportunity to clarify her position on politics, saying she withdrew from political activities after the last presidential election.
Amal said: “I have noticed that some people come under my posts claiming that I am still actively involved in politics. I want you to know that I left politics after the presidential election campaign. My dignity means more to me than anything else. Whatever a person may gain from politics can never equal the value of one’s dignity.”
She added that she has no intention of returning to politics and appealed to the public to stop associating her with any political activities.
However, she stressed that every Nigerian feels the pain of the country’s current situation, especially the insecurity that has made it difficult for people to go about their daily lives freely.
“What is happening affects everyone because we are all Nigerians. Women are being abducted and abused, children are being taken from schools, and parents are now afraid to send their children to school. Some people can no longer visit their relatives in other states because of fears over insecurity,” she said.
Amal again called on Nigeria’s leaders to fulfill their promises to protect the lives and property of citizens and to take urgent steps to restore peace and security across the country.
“Stand firm and fix our country for us. Fear Allah and fulfill the trust that has been placed in your hands,” she said.
