Several State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards across Nigeria have begun collecting a minimum initial deposit of ₦4 million from intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj following a directive by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The commission said the move marks the commencement of preparations for the 1448H/2027 Hajj exercise and is aimed at ensuring early planning for the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

In a circular dated June 15, 2026, titled Commencement of Preparations for 1448H/2027 Hajj Season, NAHCON directed all State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, as well as licensed Private Tour Operators, to immediately begin preparatory activities in line with guidelines issued by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

NAHCON said the ₦4 million represents the minimum initial deposit, stressing that the final Hajj fare would be determined and announced after consultations with relevant stakeholders and the conclusion of negotiations with service providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The commission also fixed September 26, 2026, as the deadline for the collection of deposits by state pilgrims’ boards and licensed tour operators to enable timely planning and contractual arrangements for the pilgrimage.

It said several states had already commenced the exercise, while preparations were ongoing across the country in line with the approved timetable for the 2027 Hajj.

NAHCON advised intending pilgrims to make payments only through their respective State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies or Commissions, or licensed Private Tour Operators where applicable. It also urged them to obtain official receipts for every payment made as evidence of their transactions.

According to the commission, the early collection of deposits will facilitate advance planning for key aspects of the Hajj operation, including accommodation, transportation, feeding, healthcare and other logistics, while early registration by intending pilgrims will enhance the smooth coordination of the exercise.

NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with state pilgrims’ boards, licensed tour operators and other stakeholders to deliver a seamless, efficient and successful 2027 Hajj. It also urged states yet to begin collecting deposits to expedite preparations in line with the approved timetable.
