The Nigerian Army’s anti-terror group Operation Hadin Kai has clarified that an individual previously reported as a terror suspect has been cleared after investigations found no links between him and any terrorist group.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said the individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation following the attack at Cross Kauwa.
The military explained that the man was taken into custody in line with established operational procedures due to the prevailing security situation in the North-East and the use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
According to the statement, comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes established that Zein-Nur has no affiliation with any known terrorist organisation.
The investigation further revealed that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, and is engaged in camel rearing across the River Komadougou.
Following the outcome of the investigation, Operation Hadin Kai said it had cleared the individual of any terrorist links.
The Theatre Command stressed that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and appropriate security screening to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
