The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has congratulated former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman and exemplary leader.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, on Sunday, Governor Bago described Babangida as a visionary, patriotic and dogged leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development remain significant.
The governor commended Babangida’s courage, charisma and decisiveness, particularly during his years as Nigeria’s military president, saying his leadership played an important role in stabilising the country.
According to Bago, several policies initiated during Babangida’s administration contributed to the development of the country, with some of their benefits still being felt today.
He also praised the former military leader for remaining focused and consistent in contributing to national development decades after leaving active service.
“General Babangida has continued to provide wise counsel for the continuous development of society and has become a shining light and ray of hope to younger generations,” the governor said.
Bago joined Babangida’s family, friends and well-wishers in thanking Allah for His blessings upon the former military president and prayed for continued strength and good health for him.
He also prayed that Babangida would be granted more years to make further contributions to humanity and the development of the country.
