The family of the late Oladotun Samson Oladipo has assured readers, advertisers, partners and well-wishers that The Eagle Online will remain in operation following the death of its founder.
Oladipo died suddenly on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, leaving family, colleagues and associates mourning the loss of the journalist and media entrepreneur.
In a statement signed by Taiwo Oladipo on behalf of the family, they thanked the readers, colleagues, friends, advertisers, partners and other well-wishers who had reached out since his death, describing his passing as a devastating shock they were still coming to terms with.
Oladipo founded The Eagle Online in 2012, dedicating much of his professional life to growing the digital news platform into one with a loyal readership and a broad network of advertisers and partners. The family said he saw the platform not merely as a business but as a vehicle for responsible journalism and public service — a conviction that shaped his decision to put measures in place to secure its future.
“It is therefore important for us, at this difficult moment, to reassure the numerous readers, advertisers, partners and friends of The Eagle Online that the publication will continue,” the family said.
According to the statement, Oladipo had established a business continuity plan that has now been activated and is being refined to sustain the publication in keeping with his vision. The goal, the family said, is to preserve the legacy he built while ensuring The Eagle Online keeps growing and serving its readers.
The family also reassured advertisers and commercial partners that existing relationships and commitments remain a priority, expressing confidence in their continued support through the transition.
“We recognise that many people have invested their trust in The Eagle Online over the years. We do not take that trust for granted,” the statement read.
Appealing for continued prayers, understanding and support as they mourn, the Oladipos thanked everyone who has stood by the family and the publication since the founder’s death.
“Dotun may have left us, but the work to which he devoted so much of his life will continue,” the family said. “The Eagle Online will continue to fly.”
