The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will lead key stakeholders in the housing sector to Sokoto for the 15th Meeting of the National Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development.
The meeting, scheduled to hold from October 12 to 16, 2026, will focus on the theme, “Strengthening Mortgage, Land and Institutional Systems for Accelerated and Inclusive Housing Delivery.”
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said in a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, that the meeting would provide a strategic platform for stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting land administration, housing finance, mortgage systems and institutional reforms.
Participants are expected to include state commissioners and permanent secretaries responsible for housing and urban development, general managers and chief executive officers of housing corporations, state surveyor-generals, professionals, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders in the built environment.
The ministry said the annual meeting would facilitate discussions on practical strategies for strengthening the systems and institutions needed to expand access to affordable and inclusive housing across the country.
It added that the gathering would enable the Federal Government, state governments and other stakeholders to review developments in the housing sector, share experiences and identify areas requiring stronger collaboration and coordinated action.
The meeting is being convened under the leadership of the Minister and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma and Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, respectively.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, said the council meeting was in line with the ministry’s efforts to promote sustainable housing delivery and strengthen the institutional framework supporting the sector.
Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, is scheduled to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the meeting.
The ministry described the National Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development as an important platform for policy coordination between the Federal Government and the states, particularly in addressing challenges relating to land administration, housing delivery, urban development and access to housing finance.
It expressed optimism that the meeting would result in productive engagements and stronger collaboration towards achieving accelerated, sustainable and inclusive housing delivery nationwide.
