The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the killing of prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, by suspected gunmen in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, in front of the cleric’s residence, when two armed men riding on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on the victims.

The police said both men sustained fatal gunshot injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead by a doctor on arrival.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dutsin-Ma promptly led a team of police operatives to the scene after receiving a report of the attack.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, had ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the area to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

According to the police, an investigation into the incident has commenced, while efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice.

The commissioner expressed condolences to the families, friends and followers of the deceased, as well as the people of Dutsin-Ma, over the killings.

He assured residents that the command would continue its efforts until the perpetrators were apprehended and prosecuted.

The police said further developments would be communicated to the public in due course.
