The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has revealed what it will do to improve service delivery in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) in 2022 and beyond.

The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the firm, Engineer Sule Abdulaziz, who disclosed this in his end-of-year message to members of the management and staff of the company, said TCN under his watch would not relent in its determination to further increase grid capacity, stability, and efficiency even as it pursues enhanced interconnectivity in the West African sub-region.

According to him, efforts would be intensified towards repositioning TCN as a world-class transmission service provider and system operator in the coming years.

He said: “In 2022 and beyond, we will intensify our efforts on repositioning TCN as a world-class transmission service provider and system operator in line with our vision, mission, and core values through effective re-branding strategies.”

Abdulaziz enjoined all members of staff to be more committed together as a family and do more in 2022.

Looking back at the outgoing 2021, the CEO who described the performance as outstanding said certain strategic decisions taken by management paid off, enabling the completion of several abandoned projects, prompt maintenance, upgrade and repair/restoration of vandalised transmission lines and facilities, installation of new transformers and substations, re-calibration and reconfiguration of transmission lines and transformer protection schemes.

He added, “These measures effectively reduced the frequency of system disturbance and collapse, resulting in an all-time national peak generation of 5,801.60 megawatts, which was successfully transmitted on 1st March, 2021.

“Other milestone achievements include the creation of Kano region, bringing to 10 TCN’s regional operations centres in the country.

“To further enhance operational efficiency, we are building over 32 office complexes nationwide, including regional, sub-regional offices and work centres. While they are at various stages of completion, the new Port Harcourt Regional Office in Rivers State has been completed and commissioned.

“We have also provided work tools and safety equipment, spare parts, test equipment, among others to ensure a more conducive working environment and efficiency.”

On the international scene, he said TCN has continued to maintain its leadership position in the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) as chairman of the executive board, while progress is being made on the implementation of transmission interconnection projects that will impact positively on the sub-region.

On the flip side, Abdulaziz maintained that the achievements so far recorded by the company were made so out of the several daunting challenges confronting company, which included Right-of-Way encroachment, Way Leave issues, funding, natural disaster, vandalism of TCN infrastructure and facilities, and insecurity, among a few others.

However, he added that stakeholders and authorities are being engaged with a view to minimising their impact on TCN operations nationwide.
