A new political movement of film practitioners known as Kannywood Kwankwasiyya has paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Film Censorship Board to formally introduce itself and express its support for the board in line with the policies and programmes of the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration and its political leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
The delegation made the visit on Monday, where they received a warm reception from the board’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha.
Speaking during the visit, the association’s chairman, Alhaji Isma’il Khalil Ja’en Mahy, said the group was formed because “Kannywood had long been neglected, with no association benefiting from government support despite the large number of practitioners in the industry. At the same time, Kwankwasiyya has many followers within Kannywood.
“Even recently, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, assisted several associations, yet not a single Kannywood group was included.
“This is why we established this association—to actively promote the programmes and achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in both urban and rural areas, and to enlighten the public about the Kano State Government under his leadership.”

In his response, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Film Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, expressed happiness and appreciation for the visit, describing the association as one with a positive and commendable objective.
He assured the group of his readiness to do his best to support them.
El-Mustapha also advised that anyone contributing to the Kwankwasiyya cause should be embraced and carried along, stressing that the association should not be formed to attack or harass others, but rather to promote the development of Kannywood and seek ways for the government to support Kwankwasiyya members within the industry.
Members of the Kannywood Kwankwasiyya delegation included Isma’il Khalil Ja’en, Tijjani Faraga, Safiya Kishiya, Yahanasu Sani, Hassana Musa, Mariya Ibrahim, among others.
