The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) says it will attend the forthcoming 2026 FESTAC Africa Festival in Dakar, Senegal.
PAWA was invited to the event by one of Africa’s most formidable Pan African organisations, the Inspire Africa Connect.
The decision was taken after a recent meeting between the Secretary General of PAWA, Dr Wale Okediran, and the Chairman of FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival, Yinka Abioye.
It would be recalled that the World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture, an extraordinary cultural gathering that brings together artists, intellectuals, scholars and cultural practitioners from across Africa and the African diaspora, was first held in Senegal in 1966 before the second edition in Nigeria in 1977.
Since its rebirth in 2022, the festival has held in Tanzania, Kenya and Ghana.
The theme of this year’s event is “Uniting Africa through Culture, Creativity and Collaboration for Sustainable Growth.”
According to the organisers, the theme embodies the festival’s commitment to fostering unity across the African continent and its diaspora.
They said: “It is hoped that the festival will demonstrate how the three pillars of cultural innovation, sustainable growth and strategic collaboration work together to create opportunities, drive economic development and celebrate the richness of African identity.”
