Nigerian feature film Kakanda has recorded another major international milestone after being officially selected and nominated for the Best Film award at the recently concluded Eurasia-Kinofest held in Sochi, Russia, on the Black Sea coast.
The announcement was made by the film’s Executive Producer, Dr. Ahmad Mohammed Sarari, in a statement celebrating the achievement in his social media handles.
Written by Khalid Musa, directed by Toka Mcbaror, and produced by Ahmad Mohammed Sarari, the Hausa language film was the only African and Nigerian film selected and nominated in its category, underscoring its growing international recognition and marking a significant achievement for both Nigeria’s film industry and the Kannywood sector.

According to the statement, the festival celebrates the cultural heritage of nations while promoting historical truth, traditional values, and spiritual and moral ideals, making the film’s selection a notable endorsement of its artistic and cultural value.
Sarari expressed pride in the entire Kakanda team for the accomplishment, describing the nomination as a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in the production.

The Executive Producer also paid tribute to the late Nura Shariff for his invaluable contributions to the project, noting that his dedication, commitment, and hard work played a vital role in the film’s success.
“His dedication, commitment, and hard work remain an enduring part of this achievement, and his memory will continue to inspire us,” Sarari said.
He said Shariff’s legacy would remain an enduring part of the achievement and continue to inspire the cast and crew as the film continues its remarkable journey on the global stage.
