Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting women’s participation in governance and decision-making processes across the state.
Bago gave the assurance on Friday when he received members of the Zone C Women Stakeholders Platform on a courtesy visit at the Government House in Minna.
The governor acknowledged the critical role women have played in his political journey, describing them as the backbone of his success. He noted that the over one million registered women members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zone C represent a formidable political force that should not be taken for granted.
He observed that despite the security challenges confronting parts of Zone C, women in the area had remained steadfast in supporting the APC, a commitment he described as commendable.
Bago urged the women to sustain their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and his administration’s New Niger Agenda, stressing that their continued participation was vital to the state’s development.
He described the Zone C Women Stakeholders Platform as a trailblazing initiative that had set a standard for women in other parts of the state to emulate in advancing the APC and the New Niger Agenda.
The governor also commended the group’s unity and organisation, assuring its members that qualified women would be considered for appointment into vacant positions in government as the need arises.
On security, Bago reiterated his administration’s determination to restore lasting peace in Borgu and other affected parts of the state, assuring residents that efforts were being intensified to tackle insecurity and guarantee the safety of lives and property.
Earlier, the convener of the platform, Hauwa Bako Kontagora, commended the governor for his support for women across the state.
She said the platform, which comprises former and serving commissioners, special advisers, directors-general, executive directors, vice chairpersons, local government women leaders and other stakeholders, was established to mobilise women and amplify their voices through active participation in governance.
Kontagora said the group remained committed to partnering with the Bago administration in promoting women’s empowerment, economic inclusion and other developmental initiatives.
She appealed for greater inclusion of women in leadership, decision-making and development processes, while reaffirming the group’s support for the governor’s administration.
Also speaking, former Commissioner for Education, Fatima Madugu, and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hassana Adamu, pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in future elections.
