The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 79 of its personnel for various acts of professional misconduct and arrested 12 suspects over alleged vandalism of critical national assets and illegal arms dealing.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said the actions underscore the NSCDC’s commitment to institutional transparency, public safety and zero tolerance for misconduct.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, disciplinary proceedings were concluded for 75 personnel following investigations conducted in line with the Public Service Rules and the NSCDC Conditions of Service.
Those sanctioned comprise one Assistant Commandant General (ACG), two Deputy Commandants (DCs), 35 other senior officers and 37 junior officers.
The statement said the officers were found culpable of offences ranging from job racketeering, financial misconduct and theft to absence without official leave and acts considered prejudicial to state security.
It added that penalties imposed include dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution.
Among the cases concluded was the February 18, 2026 operational incident at Rafin Gabas in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, which resulted in the death of Mining Marshals Location Commander, Levi Agada.
The Corps said investigations established that two personnel, Hosea Habila and Jibrin Labaran, engaged suspected illegal miners with firearms without authorisation. Both officers have been dismissed from the service and recommended for criminal prosecution.
The NSCDC also disclosed that four personnel are currently facing disciplinary proceedings over alleged illegal arms dealing.
They include Superintendent Tesie Victor Nnamdi of the Enugu State Command, Assistant Superintendent II Okwuruinya Uchenna and Assistant Superintendent II Obaji Sampson of the Ebonyi State Command, who are undergoing internal disciplinary procedures alongside legal prosecution.
Also under administrative disciplinary proceedings is Superintendent Achor Favour of the Nasarawa State Command over allegations of mistreatment and negligence involving a teenage domestic helper, Mercy Hajara Muhammad.
On its operations against illegal arms trafficking, the Corps said its Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) arrested nine suspects in Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi and Niger states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspects were identified as Friday Nnanna Ujor, Chika Sampson Nwozaku, Nnanna Ujor Chinasa, Nnanna Fountain, Nnanna Abundant Ifechukwu, alongside three NSCDC officers – Tesie Victor Nnamdi, Okwuruinya Uchenna and Obaji Sampson.
In a separate operation aimed at protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, NSCDC operatives arrested six suspected vandals on July 25, 2026, at Sabon Wuse while allegedly transporting a trailer-load of vandalised railway sleepers.
The Corps said the railway sleepers were concealed in a blue DAF trailer with registration number ZAR 618 XT.
It further disclosed that two suspected members of a vandalism syndicate, Raphael Danjuma and Isaac Zegbe, from Toto and Bassa Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, were arrested for alleged electrical cable vandalism in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The NSCDC stressed that the misconduct of the affected personnel does not reflect the integrity and professionalism of the overwhelming majority of its officers nationwide.
It also noted that all suspects and affected personnel remain entitled to due process as administrative and legal proceedings continue.
The Corps urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing actionable intelligence to support efforts at safeguarding national security.
