MAKURDI, Aug. 7, 2026 — Residents of Benue State have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, describing them as critical interventions that will improve connectivity, boost commerce and enhance economic development.
The commendation came on Thursday as the Presidential Media Team, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, inspected major Federal and Benue State government projects across the state.
The delegation, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, toured the ongoing Buruku-Logo Bridge, the Wurukum Overhead Bridge in Makurdi, the 22-kilometre Makurdi-Gboko Road, the High-Level Roundabout Interchange in Makurdi, and the Gboko Underpass and Interchange.
Other projects inspected included the 25.6-kilometre Captain Dan Road from Lubona Junction to the Tor Tiv Palace, Food Basket Brewery Limited in Makurdi, and the Federal Government-funded rehabilitation of the Buruku-Gboko Water Treatment Plant at Ameladu Headworks.
The inspection formed part of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ National Media Tour, involving more than 40 editors and journalists, aimed at independently assessing and documenting the implementation of Federal and State government projects under the Tinubu administration.
Speaking during the inspection, Onanuga said the 1,754-metre Buruku-Logo Bridge was one of five Federal Government bridges under construction in Benue State and reflected the administration’s commitment to investing borrowed funds in productive infrastructure.
He said the bridge would reconnect previously isolated communities, reduce travel time, improve farmers’ access to markets and strengthen economic integration among Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.
“The government has been accused of taking loans, but Nigerians can now see where the money is going. It is being used to develop infrastructure, connect communities, facilitate commerce and improve the lives of the people,” Onanuga said.
He added that the projects were being financed through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund and assured that adequate funding had been provided to ensure their timely completion.
The Makurdi-Gboko Road, which forms part of Phase II of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Expressway, is expected to be completed by December 2027. The highway is a strategic corridor linking Nigeria’s North-Central region with the South-East.
A major highlight of the tour was the inspection of the Buruku-Logo Bridge, which links agrarian communities across the River Benue and provides access to neighbouring Taraba State. The project is expected to boost agriculture, commerce and regional integration while creating employment opportunities for residents, with more than 50 workers from the host community already engaged on the project.
Residents who spoke during the visit described the bridge as a life-saving intervention that would end years of dangerous river crossings and reduce the frequent boat accidents experienced during the rainy season.
They also said the ongoing infrastructure projects had restored public confidence in the Federal Government and pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ode, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its investments in the state’s infrastructure, describing the Wurukum Overhead Bridge as a critical intervention on the Abuja-Lafia-Makurdi-Enugu highway.
According to him, the junction had long been notorious for severe traffic congestion, especially during festive periods, prompting Governor Hyacinth Alia to request federal intervention.
He said President Tinubu approved the project, which is now progressing rapidly.
Ode also highlighted the Benue State Government’s investment in the Makurdi Central Interchange and Underpass, describing it as a transformative project that would improve traffic flow by linking Government House, the Central Business District, Wurukum and the Abuja-Enugu highway.
He expressed confidence that the people of Benue would continue to support President Tinubu, citing the visible impact of ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
