The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), has launched the 2025–2027 Communication Strategy and Framework to strengthen policy engagement, transparency, and public trust in the education sector.
The three-year plan was unveiled in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Education with the aim of providing a clear blueprint for telling Nigeria’s education story with clarity, credibility, and consistency.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, while launching the strategy, described communication as a central pillar of reform, accountability, and public trust.
He noted that the strategy would serve as a roadmap for ensuring every policy, reform, and achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is communicated effectively to Nigerians.
He highlighted major some of the achievements of the Ministry, including the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) with over 960,000 applications processed on the new digital platform and 58,000 students matched to training centres.
He also announced free tuition, boarding, and stipends for federal and selected state technical colleges in the 2025/2026 academic session.
On basic education, he outlined the construction of nearly 4,900 new classrooms, renovation of 3,000 classrooms, and supply of over 353,000 pieces of furniture benefiting 2.3 million learners.
He added that 35,000 out-of-school children had been reintegrated into the school system and disclosed that the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has mobilised over N21 billion for the commencement of the National Library project.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, emphasised that the strategy, developed with the valued support of PLANE (Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education) and UK International Development, will deepen engagement with teachers, learners, parents, state ministries, civil society, development partners, and the media. She added that the framework will present policies in accessible language, strengthen feedback channels between the ministry and the public, and build trust and collective ownership around key initiatives such as foundational learning, digital skills, teacher professional development, and reducing out-of-school children.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abel O. Eniitan, represented by the Director of Education Planning, Mrs. Obianiuju Anigbogu, commended the initiative as a milestone that institutionalises communication as a vital tool for governance and service delivery. He assured that the ministry’s management and staff will ensure full implementation of the framework in line with government priorities.
The Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, explained that the Communications Strategy and Framework (2025–2027) provides a unified, data-driven approach to communication across the ministry, its agencies, departments, and parastatals.
She outlined the strategic pillars as unified messaging and branding, stakeholder engagement and public trust, crisis communication and reputation management, monitoring and evaluation, and professionalisation of communication.
Expected outcomes include consistent messaging, stronger alignment between communication and policy delivery, and improved public confidence in education reforms.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of the National Teachers’ Institute, Prof. Sadiya Sam Davia, and the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Colleges of Education, Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, pledged their commitment to aligning their communication practices with the framework.
They noted that this would ensure coherence, accountability, and visibility for all education sector interventions.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Mikailu Ibrahim, FCDO Lead, stressed that placing communication at the core of reforms fosters transparency, collaboration, and accountability in the education sector.
Similarly, the PLANE Deputy National Team Lead, Mr. Sam Achimugu, described communication as the bridge between policy intent and impact, ensuring inclusiveness, effective delivery, and sustainability of reforms.
The Director, Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, noted in a press release that the launch marked a new chapter in Nigeria’s education reform, where policies and achievements will not only be implemented but also clearly communicated, understood, and embraced by Nigerians.
