The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) have expressed a desire to collaborate in areas of mutual interest.
This came to light when the Director-General of NASRDA, Dr. Mathew Olumide Adepoju, paid a courtesy visit to the PTDF as part of efforts to explore areas of mutual collaboration between both institutions.
Welcoming the NASRDA delegation, the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Malam Ahmed Galadima Aminu, provided an overview of the Fund’s core mandate and strategic interventions in developing indigenous human capacity and institutional capabilities in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
He highlighted PTDF’s key achievements over the years, particularly in the areas of capacity building, research and development, as well as infrastructure support to relevant institutions.
The Executive Secretary also shed light on the establishment of two key centres by the Fund – the Centre for Skills Development and Training (CSDT) in Port Harcourt, and the College of Petroleum Energy Studies, Kaduna.
He explained that the centres were conceived as part of PTDF’s efforts to bridge the skills gap in the industry, support local content development, and drive innovation in the oil and gas sector through cutting-edge research and technology adaptation.
In his remarks, the DG of NASRDA expressed admiration for PTDF’s developmental strides and underscored the importance of leveraging technology and innovation to address national challenges.
He welcomed the idea of collaboration, particularly in areas where both agencies’ mandates intersect, such as research, data sharing, and manpower development.
The PTDF Executive Secretary assured the NASRDA team of the Fund’s commitment to building a strategic partnership that would foster innovation and national development.
He emphasised the potential benefits of synergising efforts, especially in deploying space science to support research and exploration activities in the petroleum sector.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism for a productive partnership that will advance the technological and developmental aspirations of the country.
