The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has announced an increase in bonuses for medal winners ahead of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The Minister made the announcement during a recent visit to the team’s training camp in Saarbrucken, Germany.

In a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, the Minister said that the new bonus structure includes $15,000 for gold medalists, $10,000 for silver medalists, and $5,000 for bronze medalists.

This is a significant increase compared to the bonuses awarded at the recent Olympic Games, where gold, silver, and bronze medalists received $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000, respectively.

Senator Enoh explained that this gesture reflects the Federal Government’s appreciation of the athletes’ sacrifices, dedication, and commitment to representing Nigeria on the global stage.

He encouraged the athletes to see the increased bonuses as a morale booster, meant to reignite their passion for sports, strengthen their patriotism, and give them the courage to achieve glory.

Highlighting the importance of the upcoming games, Senator Enoh reminded the athletes of Nigeria’s poor performance in the recent Olympic Games, urging them to change the narrative.

“The country (Nigeria) as it is now, is not in a happy mood and I need all of you to look at yourselves as those people that are going to create and bring back joy,” he said.
