Women and children awaiting transportation out of Mada town

People of Mada town in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State are fleeing the town in droves today after attacks by bandits, reports from the area say.

Photos posted in the social media today showed groups of residents trying to flee the town, a deserted street and another with boys holding placards that read: “Help us free Mada”, “Mun gaji da mulkin kama karyar da ake mana” (We are fed up with the dictatorial rule imposed on us) and “Ba ma goyon bayan zalunci, a dauki mataki” (We don’t support injustice, take action).

Bukar Mada, a notable Hausa writer who comes from the town, confirmed the development to New Citizen, pleading with the Federal Government to come to their rescue.

A report by the BBC Hausa said the banditsshot one person and abducted four others, while carting away many domestic animals.

Residents trying to flee the town

Residents have reported that soldiers guarding the area are preventing the people from fleeing.

They said yesterday’s attack on the town and neighbouring villages was the third in a row across three days.

The police command in the state capital Gusau are said to be keeping sealed lips on the issue.
